Mamelodi Chief Executed In Street

Chief Velaphi Victor Lekhuleni (48) was shot dead in the street outside his house on Tuesday night. The suspects who were responsible for the Chief’s death stole his firearm his driving licence and stole his BMW car. It is believed that the chief lodged claims against several areas in the North of Pretoria and owned an initiation school in Mamelodi. He also owned other businesses and organisations. Unidentified 16 years old Chief’s girlfriend spoke to the Record and told them that she has been his girlfriend for quiet some time. She then said that Lekhuleni came to visit her house that night and later they both went to his car outside the house for a conversation. She was sitting in the front seat and he was outside the car. Two men in a red Volkswagen Golf parked their car a distance from chief’s car and approached them on foot. As they came closer they then opened fire on Lekuleni, hitting him three times. They then left his body on the street, she said.
Lekhuleni land claim commissioner Nomfundo Gobodo expressed sadness over the Chief’s death on Wednesday and sent condolences to his family. The land claimed by Lekuleni involve almost the entire area of East of Pretoria including all the schools, churches, suburbs, shopping centres, parks, private homes, farms and small holding from Cullinan, Wapadrand and Lynnwood to Derdepoort. The claims were published on the 12th of December 2014.
Gauteng police spokesperson Katlego Mogale confirmed that Lekhuleni was murdered and the perpetrators are unknown. The police request anyone who has information to report to the police on this number 012-812-9037 or 082-492-3241 or 082-536-6481. (Mamelodi Record April 3, 2015:1).
