Gauteng Premier, David Makhura and Tshwane executive Mayor, Councillor Kgosientso Ramokgopa held a Community Meeting on Sunday morning at Stanza Bopape Sports Complex, Extension 5. The meeting was regarding the transport problems at Mamelodi that has been going on all week. They discussed solutions based on the issues. One of the residents, Tshepo Michael Macheke who was part of the meeting said that “the Government and commuters are adamant that choosing a type of transport is entirely up to individual members of the community and taxi drivers have no right to stop anyone’s decision.” It’s believed that many people uses buses as they are affordable. They also concluded that Autopax buses will be running from tomorrow, the army will be deployed to Mamelodi and that the local government will engage with the taxi’s to solve this issue. They also warned that anyone who attacks buses will have charges laid against them.
