Mpho Billy Makata, a rugby player who lives in Mamelodi and very passionate about his dream. He started playing Rugby in 2008 when he was 15 years old, at the time he was in high school. He was playing soccer at the age of 7 before he started playing rugby. “I started playing soccer when I was 7, 2 years later I joined rugby because it was my dream and I followed my brother, he’s a rugby player too,” said Mpho. Mpho’s brother, Leon Billy is currently playing for Bulls under 23 . “When I was 18 years old I got selected for TUT under 19,”said Mpho. Before then Mpho was encouraged and inspired by Willem Verhof, he offered to sponsor him throughout his activities, including financial, gym and equipment. He trains at least 3 times a week. “I would like to tell other kids to stay away from the streets and join rugby, focus on their dreams and study hard,” said Mpho.
