Dr Barbara-Ann Ribeiro Visited UP; Mamelodi

Dr Barbara-Ann Ribeiro visited University of Pretoria Mamelodi Campus today. She was invited to TJO program that was organised by Kajeno Media and Pretoria News.


The purpose of the program was to honor Dr Fabian and his wife Florence Ribeiro and the significance of updating local history.

Also to stimulate the youth and encourage them to start reading. Dr Fabian Ribeiro and his was wife were assassinated on the first (1st) of December 1986 by agent of the state in their country yard. The couple were human rights activist, they were well known as one of the ionic figures in the township and contributed to the democracy of South Africa. The department of Education were also part of the program donating books to local school libraries.  Prof Keorapetse Kgositsile (National Poet Laureate), Val Boje (Editor at Pretoria News) and Dr Lindelwa Dalamba (Cultural historian) held Drs Fabian and Florence Ribeiro Tribute Conversation during the program. The program is going to take place again tomorrow starting at 10 Am until 18:30. At the beginning of the program,  Prof Nthabiseng Ogude officially opened the program. Followed by Prof Vasu Reddy, story telling in exploring the community archive, Spiritual motivational session by Nkini Mokone Phasha. Zanele Ndlovu was featured in musical performance, Lindiwe Matshikiza read the book extract and had interactive discussion with the author and audiences.  More updates to follow…
