Some call him Lucas, others call him Edgar and I call him Marvin but this guy’s name is The MEL!
Meet The Mamelodi Happenings Artist Of The Week The MEL (Marvin Edgar Lucas) from Mamelodi East, BufferZone. He started singing when he was only 7 years old and fell in love with Hip-pop when he was 10 years old. He started singing with his sister Margaret. He writes his own rhymes and choruses. Nothing ever stopped him from there on. Mamelodi is his first song that he released on SoundCloud in 2015 and is actually the most streamed songs he released until this day. The MEL is working on releasing his first album and planning a tour to America in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture and if the DAC agree to fund him and which is yet to be confirmed. “I’m planning to go to America tour and if the right people at the DAC agree to fund the tour it will be an honor and a huge achievement on my side”, said Marvin. He once performed in Washington DC at open mic which inspired him to do more. He also performed at the South African State Theater in Pretoria, Cappelos at Sunny Park, The Village in Mamelodi, Fashion Show in Soshanguve to name few. His late brother, Cecil Lukas is and has always been his inspiration. His brother was a rapper and when Marvin was young, he would guide him and sometimes even battle with him to see if he was growing lyrically. “He was a true inspiration, basically his love for Hip-pop has passed on to me. Recently, The MEL released the following songs, Say My Name, Street Impact and Ceilings.
