Foundation for Integrated Community projects (FICP) hosted an event on Saturday in Nelmapius. The event was involving sports including soccer and netball.
“We invited eight schools both in Mamelodi East and Mamelodi West and we had only four schools that have attended. Boys under 13 and 19 participated in soccer and also girls under 13 and 19 participated in netball”, said one of the organisers, Mr Mphaki Sam Mashifane.
He added that they chose school teams according to their academic performance.
According to them, they preferred top eight schools in Mamelodi including Ribane-Laka, Prosperitus, Stanza Bopape and Flakfontein secondary schools and with Primary Schools they chose Tshimollo, Refentse and Shirinda Primary School.
“The event was well planned, exciting, vibrant and successful, even although not all schools participated but those who came through took an effort and played to the best of their abilities”, said Mr Mashifane.
The event was highly appreciated by school children, teachers and sports coordinators and they said that it should be a continuous event to ensure sports participation in schools.
FICP is an NGO dealing with sports development in communities. After the Easter, the organisation is planning to host another event of the same nature for the kids in the community.
