Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela was appointed Gauteng Police Commissioner this morning in Mamelodi East Police Station.
This happened after Lieutenant-General Deliwe de Lange resigned last year October 2018.
Premier David Makhura together with the Minister of Police General, Bheki Cele and MEC for community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane announced his appointment.
Mawela held top positions in the South African Police Service (SAPS) such as Divisional Commissioner of the Division: Operational Response Service, as well as head of the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJOINTS).
General Cele described Mawela as a seasoned police officer and added that he will use his experience to “nail criminals”.
