Editor- Everyone should consider taking HIV/AIDS test at least every year. According to stats, everyone who are at high risk for HIV infection should get tested every 3 to 6 months. I suggest if you have been engaging in a behavior that will put you at risk for contracting HIV infection get tested as often as you can. When talking about risk, I’m referring to having penetrative unprotected sex and using drugs with unsterilised needles.

As we all know that HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Aids- Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Of course, we feel okay and not ill at the moment but that does not mean we don’t have the diseases. We are either infected or affected by it. We will never know until HIV attacks the cells and the immune system get weak and not able to fight the disease and when that happens, the HIV infection can lead to Aids and that will be too late.

This is why is important to get tested and seek for medical treatment if you are positive as soon as possible. We don’t want to leave it until late do we?

Today as we celebrate World Aids Day, make sure you get tested and know your status. This is free! Especially in public hospitals or clinics. Some of you have lost hope thinking that you can’t be saved but Hey, although there’s no cure for it, but with proper medical care it can be controlled.

Anyone can become infected with HIV by engaging in unprotected sex (Vaginal, anal or oral) or other types of sexual behavior with HIV positive person. The infection spread through blood and genital fluids including pre-seminal fluids and semen (pre-cum and cum). If you’re having sex it is important to know the risks of all different types of sexual behavior to protect yourself and others from contracting the disease.

We are all in this, we are either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Know your status!
